Happiness is something that I personally struggle with, lately though I’ve been doing a lot better at it and I thought I’d empart my wisdom on all of you.
First off, negativity is bad. I love hooking up with my friends and talking shit as much as the next girl but everything in moderation. Keep it light and stay positive, focus on strengths of character. Everyone fucks up now and again, we need to be able to get passed that though.
Secondly, be active. That’s one great thing about having dogs, they keep you on your game. Drink a beer or two, smoke a joint but don’t let that be your day. Of course when and if you have work this isn’t a huge problem but even on your days off get out for a hike or a bike ride, walk to the store, color, read, craft. Travel, I don’t mean big expensive vacations, just make a picnic in the neiboring town. Don’t get lazy. It might seem like a nice break from time to time but too much lazy leads to wallowing.
Third, don’t dwell on the past. This is hard because the past has made us who we are. I’m not one to say we should leave the past in the past, not at all. Embrace it, study it, learn to accept it. Even mistakes and regrets helped make you who you are, don’t ignore that, but know how to move passed it and learn from it. That is how we grow, and then when the funk comes on you can look back and see how far you’ve come.
Fourth, don’t worry about it. This is so ridiculously hard sometimes but even when things get really grim it is important to realize that worry won’t fix it. Just calm down and deal with the consequences when they’re before you.
Fifth, don’t let fear drive you. If you do, pretty soon you start wanting to build the great wall of Mexico and all kinds of other crazy shit. Step back and enjoy the ride. Yes, there might be a long bumpy road from point A to point B but remember that you’ve got this! Just chill and enjoy the ride.
And last but certainly NOT least, love yourself. Like everything else do this in moderation. I feel like my generation can go a little crazy with this sometimes. Don’t be an asshole, stay humble and charitable. If you meet someone who is a little off but kind it won’t kill you to talk to them. If you meet someone at the bus stop who just lost their job maybe pay for their bus ticket. It doesn’t need to be about you all the time, and actually doing things for others will make you feel better, but you don’t have to feel guilty about treating yourself from time to time. Have some self respect. If somebody tries to change you don’t let them, don’t take backhanded compliments and don’t ever feel like you need to accept every invitation. You don’t, just do you. It’s okay to walk away from people that make you feel bad about yourself.
Happiness is key, happiness really does prolong your life. Be as happy as you can be as often as you can be.
